The Ebling Library instruction team's mission is to support, facilitate, and foster information literacy for all of our patrons and promote self-sufficiency (life long learning) in an ever-changing information environment.

What we can do for you

• Group Instruction - For any class or group, library staff will develop and conduct a customized session on a wide variety of topics. Sessions (hands-on or not) can occur at your place or ours.
• Individual consultation - Need help searching a database or using a citation manager? Having a hard time keeping up to date on specific topics or journals? This and much more can be covered during a one-on-one session with a librarian. We are happy to travel to any location that suits you.
• Don't want to talk to a librarian? Take a look at our depository of tutorials.
• Drop-in workshops - Free, open to all, hands-on workshops on important topics and resources. See our offerings and calendar.

Drop-In Workshops @ Ebling

We offer instruction on a variety of library topics and resources, including databases, citation managers, and current awareness services. These drop-ins take place on most Wednesdays and Fridays from noon-1pm in room 2121 of the HSLC [Map]. Sessions are free, open to all, with no pre-registration required, so just drop-in!

• Ebling Library in a Nutshell

  Join us for an overview of the many health resources and services available from the Ebling Library. We'll show you how to locate and obtain online and print books and journals, navigate our website, and use the library resources from off-campus.

• EndNote

  Intended for the novice user, introduces the basic features of EndNote, which helps organize references to journal articles, books, etc. Learn how to maintain your personal database, import records and prepare bibliographies. Health science examples will be used in this hands-on session. Instructors will be available for individual questions after the class.

• Evidence-based Public Health

  Evidence-based is more than just Medicine. Join us for an overview of Evidence-Based Public Health (EBPH). Find out how EBPH differs from EBM, learn about the EBPH process, and get to know the EBPH resources available from on and off-campus, including sources for systematic reviews (Cochrane, PubMed, etc.), guidelines (The Community Guide, NGC), and other EBPH-related tools such as pre-filtered searches.

• Finding the Best Evidence

  Join us for an overview of Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) and the EBP resources available from on and off-campus, including sources for systematic reviews (Cochrane, DARE, PubMed), sources for clinical trials (PubMed, CCRCT), and other EBP-related tools such as surveillance journals and clinical databases.

• MadCat

  MadCat, the library catalog for the University of Wisconsin-Madison, contains information about books, journal titles, government documents, videos, and other materials on campus. This hands-on workshop explores the various search options in MadCat and offers tips and strategies for finding materials on your research topic. It also covers services such as requesting library materials and viewing your library record online. Hands-on practice included.

• PubMed

  Learn how to successfully mine PubMed (MEDLINE), the world's largest biomedical literature database, using advanced features such as Medical Subject Headings (MeSH), limits, clinical queries, citation matcher, and the new My NCBI feature for saving searches, search results, and setting up customized tabs or topic/journal alerts.

• RefWorks

• RSS/Alerts

  Staying afloat with current biomedical research can be overwhelming. Imagine that you could have one single list of articles from your favorite journals, newspapers, web sites, and blogs, which you could peruse at your leisure. This hands-on workshop is intended to provide a fun and informative introduction to RSS, which make it easy to stay up-to-date with new research and hot topics. Hands-on practice setting up and using your own Google Reader or Bloglines account is included.
